Amabilis Singers Welcomes Man Li as Our New Artistic Director

We are delighted to announce that Man Li will be joining the Amabilis Singers as our new Artistic Director. A conductor, composer, and presenter of growing international acclaim, Man brings a rich tapestry of experience and a passion for innovative choral artistry to our community.

With a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of British Columbia and leadership roles with ensembles ranging from children’s choirs to university and community groups, Man is deeply committed to artistic excellence and inclusivity. His programming blends classical treasures, like the Fauré Requiem, with contemporary and experimental works, fostering musical exploration and connection.

A rising star in the world of choral music, Man’s work has been recognized through prestigious conducting fellowships and international presentations on Cantonese choral music. His visionary leadership and passion for creating safe, vibrant spaces for singers align perfectly with our mission at Amabilis.

Join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter as we embark on a season of inspiration and innovation under Man’s direction.

Spring Concert: Roots of Peace

Saturday, April 26th, 2025, 7:30 pm.

Artistic Director: Man Li
Piano: Ingrid Verseveldt

In this concert, you will be treated to “The Tree of Peace” by Gwyneth Walker, a contemporary adaptation of the Quaker poem, followed by ”O Brother Man,” by John Greenleaf Whittier.

“Come to the Woods” by Jake Runestad, where we observe a storm from the top of an Amabilis Fir tree, will give way to “The Ground” by Ola Gjeilo, based on a chorale from the last movement of his Sunrise Mass. This moving performance will culminate in the beauty of the Fauré Requiem, enhanced by the rich tones of a string ensemble and organ.

Through these pieces we explore humanity’s connection to nature, the pursuit of spirituality, and the quest for peace, culminating in a profound reflection on eternal rest and hope.

Tickets are available via Eventbrite.
